Congratulations to Judge Lauren R. Guyton on her recent appointment to Maricopa County Superior Court

Governor Katie Hobbs recently announced the appointment of Lauren Guyton, February 9, 2024, to the Maricopa County Superior Court. Judge Guyton is the third African American woman to be appointed in the history of the Superior Court of Arizona, and the second in the county of Maricopa.

Judge Guyton is a native Phoenician who has lived in Hawaii, California, Michigan, New Jersey, Maryland, and Illinois. She graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Social Work before she obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Chicago School of Law. Judge Guyton began her legal career as a Public Defender in the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office where she handled cases ranging from marijuana to murder. She was first appointed to the Maricopa Superior Court as a Commissioner by Judge Janet Barton in 2016. Since then, she has served the criminal department on Master Calendar, Therapeutic DUI and Drug Courts, and ended her role as Commissioner as Presiding Commissioner in the Juvenile Department.
