Social Entrepreneur, Consultant, Filmmaker & Speaker

Bio:

A pioneering inspiration for women, Pearlette J. Ramos, Ph.D., J.D. is a civil rights lawyer, social justice advocate, entrepreneur and filmmaker. She facilitates leadership workshops, provides resilience coaching and consulting, and leads travel adventures around the world.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio and raised in the Brier Hill housing projects, Pearlette’s childhood home was poverty-stricken and riddled with substance abuse, domestic abuse and untreated mental illness. Due to the trauma, she fled her parents’ home when she was 15 years old. Within twelve months she was pregnant, married and a high school dropout. During her 20s, she struggled as a single mom who worked three jobs at a time just to make ends meet. These challenges prompted her to attend college, then law school, where she dreamt of changing the laws and systems that disproportionately impacted women and children.

Pearlette holds a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and a PhD in Psychology from Saybrook University. She also completed a wealth of interdisciplinary studies including coaching, filmmaking, DEI and financial inclusion.  Committed to economic justice, she serves on the OneAZ Credit Union Board of Directors and as the president of the Arizona Black Bar (2024). Passionate about nature, hiking, creativity and servant leadership, she tithes her time to various community organizations including the Arizona State Bar Council on Minorities and Women in the Law, Arizona Lawyers for Equal Justice, Avondale Neighborhood and Family Services Commission, Arizona Center for Civil Leadership, Phoenix Rotary 100, and Sisters Talk About Race (STAR).

Her commitment to gender and racial equality led her to produce and co-direct her first feature documentary: Three (Extra)Ordinary Women.  The social impact film tells the story of three women of color who were brought together through friendship and a desire to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. Each woman experienced various types of childhood trauma and oppression—yet, went on to find the path to their power. They use the imposing mountain as both a metaphor for overcoming personal adversity and an opportunity to challenge insurmountable odds--like ending violence against women, undoing racism and overcoming fear.  See https://threeextraordinarywomen.com/

Pearlette divides her time between Arizona, the Pacific North West and travels around the world advancing her film’s social impact campaign. She is the proud mother of two amazing adult children.
